Daily slices of ginger can do wonders

20 Oct 2011

Recently, there is a research article suggesting daily dose of ginger may play a role in reducing colon cancer risk.

Ginger - Food that healsThe University of Michigan Medical School research team had done experiment on 30 healthy adults.  On a random selection basis, some of the adults were given daily intake of 2g of ginger per day versus the control group just took a normal placebo powder (as comparison).

After 28 days, the adults in the daily ginger intake group appeared to have shown sign of reduction of inflammatory in colon.  While the research is still only in its phase II, it suggested that ginger could be explored further for people with higher risk of colon cancer.  Ginger seems to be tolerable and safe. In the article, it suggested that further investigation in people at high risk for Colorectal Cancer (CRC) seems warranted.  So, if you are person who do not really enjoy  ginger, this may be a good  reason for you to try to.

In fact, in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), ginger is a very useful daily food that can serve as medicine as well as food.

In our recent Meridian Massage Graduate gathering, I shared with our graduate this Chinese quote, “男人不可百日无姜” (which literally translated to “a man cannot afford not to take ginger for 100 days”), says a lot about the importance of ginger.

Ginger provides “yang” (阳) energy to the body, thus warm our body.  Some of the healing properties of gingers include relieve cold, flu and motion sickness, warm our body, improve blood circulation and digestion.  It is also useful to relieve aches and pains, as mentioned in the above research that ginger has anti-inflammatory properties.

Even though University of Michigan Medical School mentioned that ginger is considered safe and tolerable.  However, in TCM, human body can be classified into different body constitution.   There are groups of people should take ginger in moderation while the others should take more.  Typically, people with “warm” body type should not over eat ginger.

Meridian Massage Workshop - 5 elementsThat is the reason in LOHAS Meridian Comprehensive workshop, we teach about the 5 elements of body, daily food that nourishes our body type and LOHAS Meridian Hand Techniques that enhance your body constitution.  Each of our body is different and unique.  It is imperative to understand our body and take care accordingly.

Ginger can be useful for external application too.  For people always having cold hand and feet, you can try to soak your feet with warm water mixed with ginger water.   Another useful area would be relieving knee and ankle pain.

Next time, when you see ginger in your dishes, try to enjoy them.

LOHAS Meridian Massage – Graduate Gathering – 8 Oct 2011

9 Oct 2011

On 8 Oct 2011, we had another good meeting with fellow graduates of LOHAS Meridian Massage Workshop (Comprehensive).  Vincent, Lai Kwan, Felicia, Mdm Aw, Edwina, Anna and Hsiu Mei were present in our gathering.

The gathering was a good meet up session for all. In a nice, casual ambient, there were plenty of fun and laughter. Different batches of graduate get to meet each other and share experience too.  Of course, nice food is always one of the good attraction here too.

The idea of having gathering to support our graduate in refreshing their learning and practising of LOHAS Meridian Massage and self-therapy.  At the same time, they get to learn new knowledge about meridian health and massage.

In this gathering, our meridian health master trainer, Peng Tatt, sharedSimple and Effective way to improve Qi and Blood about the definition body type according to latest research in Traditional Chinese Medicine.  They also get to understand the body signal when they are lack of “yin”, lack of “yang”, lack of “Qi” and do a simple test of “sensitive” body type. Truth about successful slimming

6 Oct 2011

We had just finished our Ultimate Slimming Intensive workshop on 5 Oct 2011.
It was a small class with lots of learning for the everybody.

During one of the tea break (yes, we still eat normally when our topic is on slimming), one of the participants curiously asked the other participants an important question.

She said to her classmate, “I don’t really understand and I am very curious. You seems to be very health conscious, you prepared your own healthy lunch, you practise Tai-Ji regularly, you seems to be a discipline person, how come you size it still….”, at this moment, she make a gesture of “round shape”.

I was glad that she asked the very important question to her classmate, even though it is during the tea break. This is exactly what Ultimate Slimming Intensive workshop all about.

Many a times, we see those “health conscious” people around us, they seems to do the “right” things but their shape or weight seems to show otherwise.

In Ultimate Slimming Intensive workshop, participants are taught the very important and profound FOUR GOLDEN PRINCIPLES. This FOUR GOLDEN PRINCIPLES allows the participants to enjoy the food and stay slim at the same time.  The truth is – it is not what we eat that matters, but how we eat it! We really need to enjoy food rather the using our mind to control what we eat or how much we should eat.

In fact, the more we practise, the more freedom we have for our choices of food.

If participants allow themselves to unlearn and relearn, these principles are fairly easy to practise, . For example, one of the things we teach is eat when you are hungry. Simple and easy isn’t it?

I am glad that it was a small group session so that the information hungry (keen learner) get to ask THE question that was bothering her.

In fact, there were many enlightening moment for all participants. They discovered THE FUNDAMENTAL things that stopping them to achieve their SLIMMING GOAL. They get to discover their “little voice” that is not supporting their slimming journey.

As I mention in every slimming workshop, it is not only the LOHAS meridian massage techniques that I am going to share, but participants get to learn much more on the important things and self-discovery that give them CLARITY to their slimming goal. They discover the truth about successful slimming!

May all of them have more clarity as they practise their customised slimming program. CLARITY leads to POWER, POWER is the ability to ACT.

Of course the true learning (truth) comes when they really put their new knowledge into practice.  I wish them having a FUN DISCOVERY and HEALTHY slimming journey.

Meridian Massage for Emergencies

1 Oct 2011

This is a re-post from my previous article dated in Nov 2009.

I am glad that I teaches this techniques in my two days – LOHAS Meridian Massage Workshop (Comprehensive) class, DIYMMC.  It is non-invasive and it is fairly easy to administer.   Two months ago, one of my DIYMMC participants came to me telling her experience how she used the same technique to help her father-in-law when he collapsed during his birthday dinner.

—————————-Re-post Article———————————————

Nov 2009

I happened to go to Tanjong Pagar area to attend a seminar two Saturday ago. The MRT station was relatively empty so  I decided to use the staircase I hardly use to explore that area.

Upon approaching the stair case, I noticed there was a group of people sitting at the staircase. I thought they might be waiting for their friend.   As I walked passed them, I sense a typical traditional massage oil or something similar to that.  The wife was frantically rubbing her husband shoulder and she looked worry.   The husband look a bit pale and his eye could hardly open.   As I was running late for the seminar, I walked pass them without much thought.   When I was walking up the stairs, I ask the Malay young lady who attended to him what had happened.   She just shrouded her shoulder say, “may be giddy la”.

As I reaching the next level my instinct told me to go back and have a look even though my typical traditional family teaching was “Mind your own business”.

I climbed down the stairs and walked towards the group a people. The wife still keeps on rubbing the husband shoulder and neck while their children sitting behind waiting helplessly.

I introduced myself and told them I teach people self help massage.  I offered my help.   I guess the wife was worry and helpless that time. She accepted my offer without much thought.  I asked a few clarifications questions to access the situation.

Apparently the husband fainted in the train a while ago.  The other passengers helped to carry him out to the control station and leave them there.   This guy has history of high blood pressure and he didn’t forget to take his medicine nor having empty stomach.   When I touched him, his hands and feet were cold.   I was worry that he might have a heart attack.

Quickly, I massage his heart and pericardium meridian, especially the Shen Men and Nei Guan area
 Acupressure Point

When I tried to talk to him, he looked so blur and had a cold sweat.   He was complaining he is giddy and could not stand up.  So, I taught the wife how to massage both meridians while I try to help him regain his consciousness through massaging the forehead, Ying Tang and the Feng Chi area.   His head and neck were also cold too.

I  used Mint essential oil to help him feel better.  At the same time, I suspect it might be heart attack because his body, neck, hands and arm still feeling cold.  For that reason, I used a bit of strength to press on his Shao Fu point because this point is useful for emergency case as such.

Shao Fu Acupressure Point

After doing it about 5 to 10 min, his body finally is getting warmer.   Finally, he is more conscious and able to stand up and walk with his wife help.

I still remember that I taught one of my Meridian Massage Comprehensive Workshop & Retreat classes that this massage point is for emergency situation only.  Most likely they won’t need to use it.  However, I think I will need to take my word back because we may not predict when emergency is going to happen.  It could be somebody else or it could be our loved one.  Somehow, this incident strengthens my belief that if there is one person in the family learns LOHAS meridian massage, he or she can help to take care of the family, especially during emergency.

As I continue my journey to the seminar, I tell myself that “it is a blessing for me to learn the meridian massage and it’s a privilege to have the opportunity to teach this self help massage technique to public”.

————————— end  of re-post article ——————————

I am glad that I continue teaching this techniques.  Two years after this, my participant used this technique on the very important day of her father-in-law.  Emergency is something happen unexpectedly.  The question is are we well equipped with the right knowledge.
